Applied Research Lab

As a University Center of Excellence in naval science, systems engineering and technologies, with preeminence in undersea missions and related areas, the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) provides solutions to problems in national security, economic competitiveness, and quality of life.

In fulfillment of this mission the ARL:

  • Performs basic and applied research, exploratory development, advanced development in systems engineering, and manufacturing technology in support of the Navy technology base
  • Champions the transfer of advanced technologies and manufacturing processes, in partnership with industry and Navy research development centers, to acquisition programs and fleet operations, as well as to other government agencies and the private sector
  • Contributes to the educational objectives, research goals, and public service outreach of Penn State

 
 

About

The Penn State Department of Aerospace Engineering, established in 1961 and the only aerospace engineering department in Pennsylvania, is consistently recognized as one of the top aerospace engineering departments in the nation, and is also an international leader in aerospace education, research, and engagement. Our undergraduate program is ranked 15th and our graduate programs are ranked 15th nationally by U.S. News & World Report, while one in 25 holders of a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering in the U.S. earned it from Penn State.
