Aero graduates Bobby Braun and Ian Waitz elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature," and to the "pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
Braun, Robert D., David and Andrew Lewis Professor of Space Technology, and co-director, Space Systems Design Laboratory, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. For contributions to space exploration and technologies for entering planetary atmospheres from space.
Waitz, Ian A., dean of engineering and Jerome C. Hunsaker Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. For analysis of environmental effects of aviation enabling practical environmental regulations.
Congratulations to Alum Brian W. King
Brian W. King, P.E., was named a senior associate with Gannett Fleming. Based in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., King serves as a manager of maintenance facilities in the Transit and Rail Section. King holds a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and a master of science in aeronautical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania. King resides in Lewisberry, Pa.
Guy Bluford honored with Gold Medal from PA Society
A pioneering astronaut and U.S. Air Force colonel, Penn State Distinguished Aerospace Alumnus Guion S. "Guy" Bluford has been awarded The Pennsylvania Society's Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement. Read more

The Aerospace Engineering Department held a reception at the annual AIAA meeting. The meetings were held in Orlando, Florida again this year.
